Dear Sam,

I am writing to say how pleased I am with the Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT)/Ortho-K lenses that you prescribed for me just over 5 years ago now. I have tried many monthly contact lenses as well as daily contact lenses, but always suffer from dry eyes and blurry vision towards the end of the day. As I use a computer during the day my eyes do tend to dry out a bit. However, since using CRT lenses that I wear during the night this is no longer a problem for me. When I am playing sport like squash or I am surfing I really notice the difference, I have clear vision without having to worry about my lenses falling out. I have thought about laser surgery, but don’t feel that my eyes are bad enough to take the risk, these lenses offer me the same benefit without the risk. I have made the lenses suit my lifestyle and if I go out and decide that I don’t want to wear the lenses for a night, my vision is still usually good enough the following day. I still keep my glasses as a back up when I need them and even daily lenses for if I go away. The lenses have made a big difference to my daily life and I am very happy to be using them.

Best Regards,

Gary Evans

Eye examinations

The Eye Store uses the latest in eye examination technology to establish the state of your vision and the health of your eyes. Our equipment can also help to identify a range of general health conditions. An eye examination usually takes about thirty minutes and your eyes should be tested every two years.

Eye examinations are free to certain members of the public.

Free sight tests

NHS examinations

The National Health provides free examinations to those under the age of 19 and in full time education.

Any adult over 60 will also get a free examination as well as those with certain medical conditions or on benefits.

We stock a range of frames that are free with an NHS voucher.

Company sight tests

If you work at a computer for more than four hours a day you are entitled to a free eye test provided by your company. Please speak to your HR department about how to get this.

An examination can be booked by phone, on-line or by visiting The Eye Store.

What does the eye examination involve?

During the sight test we will ascertain whether there is any optical error which would require a spectacle or contact lens correction. On attending an eye examination, you will be asked to fill out a form about your general health, lifestyle and any presenting symptoms. The optician will then take you into the examination room and take a detailed optical and family history including any reasons for your visit. All information is kept confidential and not released to any third party without your expressed permission. A through eye test is then carried out.

The optician will test the quality of your vision both aided with your glasses and unaided and your muscle performance. They will look into the health of your eye including carrying out a retinal scan (at an extra cost) and your fluid eye pressure. Other tests may also be carried out by the optician, these include a colour vision test and depth perception test.

The optician will talk you through the examination at each stage so that you feel at ease and fully explain each procedure and their outcomes.

Spectacle consultation and fitting

The staff at The Eye Store will help find you glasses and /or sunglasses to suit your budget and needs. We stock a range of frames from designer to budget frames. We will help you choose a suitable pair to suit your needs, budget, taste and lifestyle.

We stock the latest designer brands at competitive prices, these include Tom Ford, Gucci, Prada, Face a Face, Dolce & Gabbana, Ray Ban and Dior. We work closely with our reps to stock the latest styles and brands. If we do not have a frame that you wish to purchase then we will endeavor to get it for you. We also stock non-branded frames and offer a personalised service to help you choose your perfect frames.

Lens choices

We provide the highest quality lenses to our customers to suit their needs. Whether it be lenses for driving, playing sport, sunbathing, watching TV or using the computer. We supply a range of lenses including polarised lenses (ideal for sport and driving as they eliminate reflected glare), transition lenses (Photochromic lens technology that adapts to light conditions making them darker the greater the exposure to daylight), tinted lenses (choose the perfect colour lenses to flatter your complexion or to follow the latest fashion) as well as UV protection lenses.

We provide a range of lenses at varying prices depending on your prescription and budget.

Sports eyewear

We provide a range of sports eyewear from prescription goggles to ski goggles. Please come in and look at our range or call the store for more advice and offers.

Contact lens consultations

We provide a range of the latest contact lenses to suit your needs. We will discuss the best solution for you during a specialised consultation. The optician will ascertain and discuss the best solution for your needs whether that be lenses for everyday use or occasional wear.

We stock all types of lenses from daily disposables to monthly hard lenses. Not only will we provide the best lenses for your lifestyle but we will show you how to put them in, take them out, clean and look after your lenses. We will make you feel at ease using them.

The Eye Store provides great deals on contact lenses for users who want to order a month, 3 months or a bigger supply. Email, call or pop into the store for the latest offers.

Scleral lenses

Sceral contact lenses are beneficial to people with very high, complicated prescriptions or those with damaged or scared eyes. They provide excellent vision, all day comfort and can be clear or hand-painted to cover a damaged eye. Scleral lenses are excellent for contact sport and swimming.

Sam Silver has been involved with scleral contact lenses for over 35 years having been introduced to them as an undergraduate at UMIST – using them in a research project for his degree. He also has experience from his work at Moorfields Eye Hospital in the contact lens and prosthetics department which have provided valuable experience and expertise in the use of scleral lenses.

Corneal Refractive Therapy (Ortho-K)

Corneal Refractive Therapy (Ortho-K) is the use of special contact lenses worn at night which like a tooth brace alter the shape of the eye temporarily while you sleep. On removal in the morning, they will correct your vision for the day. Therefore they provide no need to use glasses or contact lenses during the day. The effect is totally reversible and offers an alternative to laser eye surgery for those that are suitable.

Dispensing

We have an in house dispenser who has over 25 years of experience using all the available lenses on the marketplace. We are usually able to dispense glasses on the spot or we can send them off to be fixed / adjusted for you.

Diabetic and Glaucoma screening

Diabetes is becoming an ever more prevalent disease throughout the UK. We are equipped to fully examine the retina (the back of the eye) to detect early signs of the disease. We carry this out using modern optical diagnostic techniques including retinal photography.

Glaucoma is an internal fluid pressure disease of the eye or problems with the optic nerve. It is easily monitored and detected by recording the internal eye pressure using the accepted gold standard for detected. It can lead to blindness in the most severe cases. Early detection and the use of a daily drop will prevent this.
